The culture of karibu (welcome) is real. Solo women are generally treated with respect and often with genuine curiosity. Asking a local woman for directions almost always results in being walked to where you need to go. The baseline assumption should be warmth — not threat.
Bolt in Dar es Salaam is a genuine safety tool. The driver is registered and tracked, the fare is set before you enter the vehicle, and you can share your trip with a contact. Use it for every journey after dark, regardless of distance.
Safari travel is one of the safest possible formats for solo travel. You are with a licensed guide in a vehicle for the entire experience. Many solo female travellers specifically choose safari for the built-in structure it provides.

Stone Town is highly walkable during the day and early evening. Forodhani Night Market is safe every night. Dress conservatively in town — cover shoulders and knees. Solo female travellers consistently rate Zanzibar among their favourite destinations.
The Njiro and Haile Selassie Road areas are comfortable with good accommodation and restaurants. The bus station area has the heaviest concentration of safari touts. Arusha is mostly a transit point — the real experience is in the parks.
Solo women climb Kilimanjaro regularly. The licensed operator structure means you are with a guide at all times. If possible, request a female guide — many operators now offer this and it makes camp life more comfortable.
